As if chopping isn’t stressful enough, here’s something you may have missed—last week, Calphalon announced it’d be recalling roughly 2 million knives in the United States along with roughly 7,100 units in Canada. The company received over 3,000 reports of knives breaking during use—and, worse, 27 reports of finger and hand lacerations, some of which required stitches.
The affected cutlery was sold at J.C. Penney, Kohl’s, Macy’s, and Amazon, among other unnamed stores, between October 2008 and December 2016. Calphalon is urging customers to check their knives for date codes, which come in small engravings on the blade’s surface. If your knife doesn’t have a date code, it’s most likely affected by the recall.

The recall covers a wide range of Calphalon products: 13 different units that were sold from a range of $25 per single knife to $300 in a set. (Here are some sample images of the knives that are being recalled.) The company has advised customers to stop using this cutlery and instead register for free replacement kits. (No word on how soon the new blades would arrive.) If you’ve got one of the following models, give Calphalon a call during the weekday at 800-809-7267 or file a replacement order online.
