Your dinner table, we’re sure, has been used for many an occasion: elegant dinner parties, towering buffets, Sunday brunches, midnight snacks.

But has it been used as an airport hangar?

In the hands of Sasha (Global Table Adventure), the dinner table becomes a hub of travel, of adventure, of discovery. From her home in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Sasha (Global Table Adventure) is conquering the world, one country at a time – picky-eater husband and young daughter in tow. One night a week comes a dinner from Andorra, or Madagascar, or Djibouti, or Estonia: all because, as she says on her FOOD52 profile page, “I wanted better for myself, my family, and the world.” A noble conquest, we’d say; and luckily, we can follow along on her blog, Global Table Adventure.

As promised, Sasha (Global Table Adventure) has brought the FOOD52 community to places it’s never been before: El Salvador (with Salvadorean Breakfast Cake, pictured above), Belarus (with Mushroom Stuffed Draniki), Cote d’Ivoire (with Smoked Turkey Stewed in West African “Gravy”), and Columbia (with Poached Egg Soup, Changua Con Huevo). With each of her recipes comes a brief geography or history lesson; she makes sure we know what we’re eating, why were eating it, and why we should join her on her journey. And when we’re done, we’ll have a Rhubarb & Cream Tart or a Grapefruit & Ginger Tart for dessert – and some coffee, for any lingering jetlag.

What is the strangest food you have ever eaten?
Babenda, an African dish made with fermented locust beans, spinach, dried anchovies, and rice. You can find the recipe on my web site.

What do you cook when home alone?
I’m a snacker, so anything in the fridge or pantry is fair game. I do love a tomato, straight from the garden, eaten like an apple, with nothing more than a bit of salt.
