Attention new readers! If you’ve stumbled upon this article, keep in mind it’s about our 2015 holiday market (from last year). And stay tuned—we’ll be sharing the news about the 2016 market very soon.
You asked and we answered: The Food52 Holiday Market is back (and bigger, and open for longer, and better than ever!). We’ve taken root on the corner of 17th Street and Broadway in Manhattan’s Union Square, and are open to the public through December 20th.
What started as a true pop-up store (last year’s was just 3 days long and much smaller), this year’s holiday market is really more like a market—with a remarkable inventory, an infectious bustle, and a score of events to boot. The location bigger than last year, too: Our elves and gift wizards—employees, that is—painted, put up shelves, hauled out our favorite Shop winners, and planned the activities to a T. There are cookies, twinkly lights on trees, mistletoe, holiday movies, real reindeer (okay not really), and definitely a present for every single person on your list.
But what kind of wonderland would it be if we stopped there? Here are the other events we have planned—so you really don’t have an excuse not to stop by.
J. Kenji López-Alt, The Food Lab: Better Home Cooking Through Science
Saturday, December 5th, 2:00 to 3:00 P.M. Open to the public.
Meet the brain and personality behind Serious Eats’s Food Lab, J. Kenji López-Alt, and his book by the same name. Get a copy of his 900-page grand tour of the science of cooking signed for the people in your life who like to nerd out on the details and won’t settle for blasé scrambled eggs (we tackled his 8-page recipe for meatloaf—find out here if it was worth it).
David Lebovitz, My Paris Kitchen: Recipes and Stories
Saturday, December 12th, 2:00 to 3:00 P.M. Open to the public
One of our favorite tour guides to the City of Light will be at the market signing his smart, beautiful cookbook—runner-up in last year’s Piglet Tournament of Cookbooks—My Paris Kitchen. Consider this the perfect (and perfectly customized) holiday gift for every Francophile and cook who loves great recipes and writing.

Prolific cookbook author Mollie Katzen will be in the house to sign the 40th anniversary edition of her treasured ode to plants—The Moosewood Cookbook—listed as one of the top ten bestselling cookbooks of all time by the New York Times (and entirely hand-written and illustrated by Mollie!). It’s the perfect holiday gift for anyone who loves vegetarian cooking, or just likes their cookbooks full of helpful details and whimsy.
