All October long, our Cookbook Club has focused on Meera Sodha’s cookbook, Made in India. Members eagerly cooked through the book, proving to themselves they can easily make their favorite Indian dishes at home.

While a great many members were already fans of Indian food, Sodha converted quite a few others (and their partners!), as was the case in Deborah Elliott’s household:

I have cooked more of the recipes in Made In India than any other cookbook I own, and I own many! I love how the recipes are fresh and many are basically one-pot cooking, adding rice or bread. My husband has been surprised with this book because he wasn’t looking forward to the month, as he thought he much prefers Chinese, Thai, and Vietnamese. He loved most of our meals and is no longer disappointed when it’s Indian food on the menu. Almost everything I have tried will be cooked again and I am so enamored of her cooking I purchased her second book, Fresh India.

Club members have made dozens of different dishes over the course of the month, but some recipes have reached the highest standard of praise: they will be repeated. Here are the top 10 favorites:

  • Cilantro chutney (Lilli chatni)
  • Green beans with mustard seeds and ginger (Fansi nu saak)
  • Cauliflower, cashew, pea, and coconut curry (Phool kobi kaju anna mattar nu shaak)
  • The perfect basmati rice
  • Naan
  • Worker’s curry (Chana Masala)
  • Chaat salad
  • Chili paneer
  • The perfect masala chai
  • Roasted cauliflower with cumin, turmeric, and lemon (Masala phool kobi)

Haven’t picked up a copy of the book yet? Not to worry! We’ve rounded up some similar recipes. Give them a chance to become repeaters in your house, too:
